When you have cataracts, there will be a period in which there are no signs or symptoms. Afterward, you may start to have some early signs of the condition. It is important to see an eye doctor to begin treatment for cataracts. If you live in or around Reading, PA and it has been a while since your last eye exam, contact Lisa M. McDevitt, O.D. to schedule an appointment.
Cataracts tend to become worse over time. The symptoms that you have with them will also get worse as time goes on. One of the earliest symptoms of cataracts is cloudy vision. You may start to have fuzzy areas in your vision. These will begin as very small spots, but they will get bigger over time. This can make it harder to do simple daily activities. If you have cloudy vision, and it is persistent, you need to see an eye doctor to check for cataracts.
If you have trouble seeing at night, this can also be a sign of cataracts. With early cataracts, night vision starts to get worse gradually. You may also have more sensitivity to light. Bright lights can cause discomfort in these cases, and this only gets worse. Cataracts may also make bright lights cause you to either squint your eyes or close them, or give you a headache.
When the lenses of the eyes get harder and cloudier with cataracts, it causes light that passes through the lenses to become diffracted. As cataracts progress, they can make halos appear around lights. There may also be glares visible when there is a bright light.
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms you need to schedule an eye exam to determine if cataracts are the cause. Call Lisa M. McDevitt, O.D. today at (610) 796-1300 or reach us through our website by using our online contact form.
