Eye Exam and Frames

Many Americans are diagnosed and living with a vision disorder. Vision disorders can be at best a nuisance. At worse, vision disorders can impact your qualify of life and prevent you from completing daily activities. Fortunately, there are effective treatment methods for vision disorders, including prescription eyeglasses.

.

Eyeglasses are some of the most valuable tools a person with a vision disorder can have. Eyeglasses can help correct vision errors immediately and can be fashionable. We at Lisa M McDevitt OD have an eye doctor in Reading, PA. Our optometrist can help you choose the right frames and eyeglasses for your vision disorder. She will provide the best eye care for you and your family to start seeing clearly.

Do I Need an Eye Exam for Glasses?

Eyeglasses must be tailored to fit your vision needs. An eye exam will help diagnose and vision disorders you might be currently living with. Eyeglasses can help correct vision disorders caused by refractive errors.

Refractive errors cause the cornea or lens of an eye to be misshapen. This impacts the eye's ability to focus light and produce a clear image. Refractive errors include:

  • Astigmatism, which is a misshapen cornea
  • Myopia, also known as nearsightedness
  • Hyperopia, also known as farsightedness
  • Presbyopia, which is farsightedness caused by degeneration of the eye with age

If you have any of these disorders, an eye exam can help determine whether you need glasses. Our optometrist can also determine the proper prescription to correct your vision.

What Happens During an Eye Exam?

During an eye exam, our eye doctor will look at the inner workings of your eye. She does so by dilating your eyes and looking inside for any abnormalities. She will also conduct vision tests to determine how vision is being impacted by your eye disorder.

After she determines the proper prescription, you can then choose the best frames to fit around your face, match your style, and help you see clearly! Choosing the right frames may be determined by:

  • Color choice
  • Style choice
  • Wraparound frames
  • Frames with transitional lenses
  • Size and complimentary to your facial features
